Brief History
Alagappa College of Technology as it is known today was the brainchild of the then Vice Chancellor of Madras University Sir. A.L. Mudaliar. The financial aid to create this institute of technology in 1944 is credited to Vallal Sir. RM. Alagappa Chettiar. The Department of Textile Technology was established in the year 1945 with the faculty members Prof. D.M. Amalsad, Prof. B.C. Mohanthy and Prof. S. Krishnamurthy.
Prof. S. Krishnamurthy was actively involved in establishing the department and served the department as Head of the Department for over two decades.
The list of dedicated faculty members such as Prof. R.A. Qureshi, Sri. S.A.Mavlankar, Sri. O.K. Balakrishnan,Sri. Venkatesan, Prof. Muthukrishnan, Prof. Rajendran, Dr.V. Subramaniam, Dr. Natarajan, Dr. J.V. Rao, Sri. T. Munirathnam, Sri. M.R. Jambulingam and a host of others including the past and present faculty members are to be credited for the special status of the department as of today.
Prof. S. Krishnamurthy, Prof. Qureshi, Sri. Subba Rao, Sri. Mahadev, Sri. D.S. Alva, Sri. M.N.U. Kurup played a key role in starting the textile alumni association. The alumni association was started in 1982 and was known as OLD BOY’S ASSOCIATION. Subsequently the name was changed to Alumni Association (Textile Branch) and on 9th September 2020 it was registered as AC Tech Textile Alumni Association (AC TTAA).
Alumni members involvement in the association are laudable. Many of them support monetarily to the corpus fund, providing scholarships, creating business opportunities, guiding in sourcing, participation as guest lecturers and many more.
